Twins till the end!

Some twins look the same.

Some twins wear the same clothes (which is a bit annoying)

But twins, having the same accident and sustaining the SAME injury but on the opposite side of their lungs … is funny!

The story:

Thirty year old twins were in a car that had no airbag system (Lada?).  One was the driver, the other was the front seated passenger.

The car got hit from the front and came to a sudden stop, and they presented to an ED.

On arrival, both:

-were complaining of shortness of breath

-were complaining of chest pain to the side where the seatbelt crosses the chest.

-had asymmetric reduced breath sounds in one lung, but opposite each other.

-vital signs were normal

Their chest xrays showed the following:

Double trouble

(link to what a pneumothorax is)

The SAME injury on opposite sides.

They made a full, uneventful recovery, dont worry im not laughing at dead people here.

Although laughing at the misfortune of others is sometimes funny.. ;p

A lot can be read from this incident. .. nature and nurture wise, biologically their biomechanical features (chest wall, lung size, amount of protective fat) might have played a role in their similar lesion, in addition to a perhaps similar behavioural response when adrenaline was at its peak, had one crossed arms and the other tucked their head downwards seconds before the collision, a different outcome would’ve been seen. Ya shain eltefelsef. :p
